Plans have been submitted for 12 supported housing units and a 72-bed care home in Congleton.

The proposals are for land adjacent to the Grade II listed Beech House on Buxton Road at Buglawton.

The site consists of 2.78 acres and is located in open countryside

Adullam Housing Association has submitted a full planning application seeking permission to convert a former workshop on the site into four supported housing units and to build another eight new units.

The company has also submitted an outline application for a 72-bedroom care home.

A design and access statement submitted by Bower Mattin & Young Architects on behalf of the applicant states: "Adullam Housing Association have occupied Beech House since 2009.

"Previously, it was a special needs school for autistic children run by the local authority."

It says the former vicar's manse was substantially extended by the council when it was a school with further alterations added subsequently by Adullam.

"Nineteen supported housing units have been integrated into the existing buildings.

"These are supplemented by a substantial portfolio of rented units within Congleton," states the planning document.

"Currently Adullam provide respite and care for people who are recovering from addictions such as alcohol and drugs.

"Adullam are seeking to rationalise their assets with a view to increasing their presence on the Beech House site."

A planning statement submitted by AshtonHale says: "The primary purpose of the supported housing development is to provide self-contained apartments promoting independent living for people requiring care and support.

"In real terms, this will free up existing general needs accommodation currently being leased by Adullam Homes – for those needing support – in the greater Congleton area."

With regard to the care home, it adds: "The proposals have been sensitively designed to bring forward further use class C2 (residential care accommodation) development, which will support Cheshire East's ageing population.

"The proposals represent a comprehensive and high-quality scheme undertaken in line with best practice guidance and are in line with Cheshire East's design guidance."

The application, number 25/1099/FUL, can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East Council's website.

The last date for submitting comments is June 26.
