Cheshire East Council will be lifting the number plate system that has dictated who could access the Congleton's tip since it reopened last month.

The changes will take effect tomorrow (5 June), meaning that people will no longer have to check whether their car number plates end in an odd or even number to go to the Household Waste Recycling Centres on a particular day.

Some of the other restrictions have also been lifted this week, as those driving vans and people on foot can now use the site.

Queuing outside the sites may still need to be be restricted and residents may be asked to leave and return later. This is separate from the number plate system that ends.

The council has said the waste and recycling centres across the borough have coped well since they reopened.

Social distancing rules will still have to be followed with people remaining two metres apart and staff at the sites will still not be able to help users to unload and lift items.
