A nail technician is taking the next step in her career by opening her own salon.

JK Nails and Beauty Studio has been confirmed as the first business opening as part Congleton Market Quarter's next phase.

It marks an exciting time for Kirsty Kelsall as she prepares to go solo for the first time in her career.

The 38-year-old said: "It just feels like the next step for me to go alone.

"It's about proving something to myself that I can do it.

"I have got all the confidence in this being a huge success."

Kirsty, from Biddulph, previously worked as a seamstress at Derek Rose.

She says she has 'never been very academic but always very creative'.

Around six years ago she started doing her friends' nails and decided to sign up for a course in Manchester.

"It just all snowballed from there," Kirsty said.

"I got all these clients and so I had to decide if this is what I wanted to do.

"So, I made the decision to go self-employed and it was the scariest thing to do but so worth it."

Kirsty has always rented out chairs at other salons and so the move to Congleton Market Quarter will be the first time she has had a place to call her own.

She will be part of the new 'arcade' area, due to open on Thursday, May 1.

"I've been thinking about it for a year or so and then I heard about the Market Quarter expanding," Kirsty said.

"I really liked the idea of it so I went down and had a chat with them and I wanted to sign there and then - I just thought it was brilliant!

"It's amazing to be part of Congleton Market Quarter. It's just got that real community vibe to it."

Speaking of community, for Kirsty being a nail technician is more than a job.

She said: "I am a people person, I love hearing peoples' stories.

"People come to you with all their stress and worries and it's lovely that when they go back out the door they leave not only with nice nails but feeling a bit better."
