Driver arrested after crash which left car on its roof

A driver was arrested after a crash which left a car on its roof.

Joanne Copestick has been charged with drink driving following a crash on Clayton Bypass in Congleton.

The crash, which occurred shortly after 4pm on Saturday, March 1, resulted in a car being flipped onto its roof, trapping the occupant who had to be freed by firefighters.

Copestick, of Vaudrey Crescent, was subsequently arrested.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 4.04pm on Saturday, March 1, police were called to a two-vehicle collision on the A34, Clayton Bypass in Congleton.

"The driver of one of the cars, a 49-year-old woman, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

"Her passenger was taken to hospital to be assessed.

"There were no other reported injuries.

"Joanne Copestick from Vaudrey Crescent, Congleton was charged with drink driving and appeared at Crewe Magistrates on March 2."

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent to engines to the scene, one each from the Congleton and Macclesfield stations.

"Firefighters were called to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Clayton Bypass in Congleton," a CFRS spokesperson said.

"On arrival they found that a car was on its roof with a casualty trapped inside.

"The casualty was released from the vehicle by firefighters and handed into the care of paramedics."
