More disruption lies ahead with resident doctors set to go on strike again.

The British Medical Association has announced another five-day walkout of resident doctors, starting from 7am on Wednesday, December 17.

Previously known as junior doctors, the strike will result in 'significant service disruption' across all East Cheshire NHS Trust sites, including hospitals in Macclesfield, Knutsford and Congleton.

Dr John Hunter, Chief Medical Officer for East Cheshire NHS Trust said: "We are working closely with partners to ensure appropriate plans are enacted to deal with this severe disruption.

"During the resident doctor strikes, we are hoping to maintain as much planned activity as possible to minimise the disruption to patients."

This is the second such industrial action staged by the British Medical Association in as many months, with resident doctors having gone on strike from November 14 to 19.

The upcoming walkout will come to an end at 7am on Monday, December 22.

During this time, the public are urged to only call 999 or attend an emergency department in a life-threatening situation.

This includes cardiac arrest, loss of consciousness, fits that are not stopping, breathing difficulties, severe bleeding, allergic reactions and serious head injuries.

Meanwhile, anyone with an appointment that needs to be rescheduled will be contacted by the NHS.

If you have not been contacted, you should attend your appointment as planned.
