POLICE are appealing for witnesses after arresting a man suspected of attempted murder after using a knife or machette in an attack in Congleton.

The 26-year-old man was arrested after what police have described as a 'targetted' attack outside the Co-op store on Bromley Road.

It happened yesterday (Tuesday, 21 February) at 7.30pm when an alarm was raised after two men attacked a third, aged 30.

The victim suffered a head wound and was taken to hospital where his condition was described as non-life threatening.

Detective Inspector Vicki Shelton said: "Enquiries in relation to this incident are ongoing we are doing all we can to ensure the people responsible are held accountable.

"At this stage it is believed to have been a targeted incident and one man has already been arrested.

"Patrols have also been stepped up in the local area to provide reassurance."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number IML 1484025.

Alternatively, information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
