KFC is coming to Congleton.

The fast-food giant has provided an update on the opening of its new restaurant at Viking Park.

It will open this Spring, creating up to 40 jobs.

A spokesperson for KFC said: "Fried chicken fans, the rumours are true!

"KFC is officially coming to Viking Park, Congleton.

"We can't wait to get settled into the community and start serving our first customers very soon."

On Tuesday (April 1), Cheshire East Council approved a planning application from Gastronomy Foods UK Limited for KFC and Starbucks signage at Viking Park.

In a report recommending the plans for approval, case officer Jonathan Hall wrote: "The proposed advertisement would not significantly impact upon the character of the area with regards to amenity and public safety.

"It is recommended that advertisement consent be granted."

KFC is aiming to open 500 new restaurants across the country over the next decade, creating more than 20,000 jobs.

The Congleton restaurant will be actively involved in the chain's food donation programme.

This ensures that surplus food is redistributed to people in need via the charity FareShare.
