How proposed boundary changes will impact Congleton

Congleton looks set to get new electoral boundaries.
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) has published its final recommendations for changes to boundary wards in Cheshire East.
Under the proposals, the total number of wards will be decreased from 52 to 47, while keeping the same number of councillors, 82.
The commission say they received support from the Congleton Conservative Association for retaining the existing two three-councillor wards – Congleton East and Congleton West.
"They agreed that our proposals reflect communities and will promote effective and convenient local government," reads a report outlining LGBCE's final recommendations.
"A local resident also supported our proposal to include part of Hulme Walfield parish within our recommended Congleton East ward, stating that it made sense."

The Liberal Democrats agreed with the idea of including Hulme Walfield but suggested adopting a three two-councillor ward system.
The report continues: "Although their proposals result in good electoral equality, we remain of the view, in conjunction with the support received during consultation, that our recommendation to propose two three-councillor wards for Congleton will effectively balance our three statutory criteria.
"We particularly consider the River Dane to provide a strong and locally identifiable boundary in this area, which was also supported by the Congleton Conservative Association."
One local resident questioned why the two proposed Congleton wards did not extend to include the A536.
"As addressed in our draft recommendations report, we explored various options to include all of the current electors and the anticipated developments south of Congleton Link Road within a Congleton ward," the report states.
"However, all options had a considerable impact on electoral equality in the neighbouring Gawsworth and Brereton wards.
"We were therefore not persuaded to adopt any of these options on this basis.
"To conclude, we are confirming our proposed Congleton East and Congleton West wards as final."
