Man charged with attempted murder following axe attack in Congleton

A man has been charged with attempted murder following an axe attack in Congleton.

Stuart Whittaker, 48 and of no fixed address, has been charged with attempted murder, burglary, attempted section 18 assault, breach of a restraining order and possession of an offensive weapon.

It comes after police were called to reports of a man breaking into a house on Dale Crescent on Monday afternoon (May 12).

It is alleged that the suspect threatened a man and woman at the address.

The man was also reportedly assaulted with an axe.

Whittaker was arrested at the scene and has since been remanded in custody.

He is due to appear at Warrington Magistrates Court today (May 14).
