Housing plans imminent for former Congleton daycare

THE former Mount View Day Care Centre site at Congleton is to be developed for mixed tenure housing which will include specialist extra care.

The centre, which was used as a care home, respite facility, daycare hub and centre of support until it was closed by Cheshire East more than two years ago, now stands empty.

Congleton Town Councillor Suzy Firkin (Lib Dem) told a meeting of Cheshire East Council's adults and health committee on Tuesday: "Lots of residents regularly tell me it's a criminal waste of a local asset, with which I have to agree."

She continued: "When last we heard Cheshire East had promising plans to turn this into a care plus supported living facility which sounded like a constructive plan

"But all that has gone quiet again, and I recognise there are lots of reasons why it might have gone quiet, but the residents of Congleton continue to ask what those plans are for this much loved centre.

"Is there a current plan for the re-use of Mount View and, if not, how can residents of Congleton work with Cheshire East to find a new constructive role for the centre supporting health and wellbeing in Congleton and the surrounding area?"

Nichola Thompson, director of commissioning and transformation at Cheshire East, said: "The site has been identified as one to be taken forward as part of our housing development framework which relates to the development of mixed tenure housing provision on council owned land and that will include specialist housing extra care.

"Whilst there is no activity on site at the moment, we can assure residents the site will not be left and there are plans to progress this as soon as possible."
