A historic Congleton church is just days away from going under the hammer.

The Grade II-listed former United Reformed Church is to be sold at the next online auction held by Pugh on Wednesday, September 24.

With a guide price of £175,000, the property is being marketed as having 'residential redevelopment potential'.

Ed Feather, director and auctioneer at Pugh, said: "This is an exciting opportunity to buy a property which, subject to the necessary planning consents, has the potential to suit a variety of different future uses, perhaps as a community asset or for conversion to residential accommodation.

"We believe that the church's location, a stone's throw from the Peak District National Park, close to Congleton's local amenities and within easy commuting distance to Manchester and Stoke on Trent, would make this unique property ideal for residential redevelopment."

The former church is set on a half-acre plot and is made up of two storeys, with a main hall and two large function rooms, along with a vestry, café area and parking for up to eight vehicles.

Built in 1877 and designed by architect William Sugden, the gothic-style building will feature in the next online auction held by Pugh, part of Eddisons, on Wednesday, September 24.
