A new gaming store has opened in the heart of Congleton.

Warhammer, card games and a demo station are all new features that are yet to come at The Gamepad Congleton.

Rob Chambers (31), a local resident, has decided to open a new gaming shop on High Street after realising there wasn't any left in Congleton. He explained how the idea came about:

"It's been since summer, that was when I really started thinking I want to open a game store in Congleton, around September was when the lease was sorted and then I was able to get in here and see what I have to work with.

"A lot of it is that I was slightly annoyed that I had to go to Macclesfield or Hanley to get anything, so I thought you know what I will do it myself because I remember just before I moved up [to Congleton] GameStop closed.

After GameStop and more recently Argos closed, there hasn't been anywhere in Congleton dedicated to video games and merchandise. With the likes of Tesco and Morrisons only selling limited stock.

Video gaming has developed a huge community over the years, with an average of 36 million players in the UK alone, and now Congleton has welcomed its very own local gaming business.

Open from 10am till 4pm seven days a week, The Gamepad Congleton is working day and night to bring more interactive activities in store.

"Hopefully at some point this week I will be getting a Warhammer display as well, so we will be stocking that in alongside the paints and models," added Rob.

"It will be something for everyone to come in and chat about."

For the time being, the store will be selling new game and console releases in time for Christmas, with the likes of Nintendo Switch, Xbox and more.

"At the moment we will be selling newer and more modern releases as we get settled in," Mr Chambers explained.

"But we will be doing a bit of everything like board games, card games, tabletop stuff so Dungeons and Dragons and all the scenario booklets should be on the list"

The shop is set to be a community-based area for people to come in and chat about their passion for video games. After opening last Saturday November 13, Mr Chambers has seen a positive turnaround from the community.

"We've had lots of interest and lots of people coming in having a look around and having a chat which was good to get the name out there," he said.

"I think with setting it up, and doing all the work inside lots of people were looking through the window and having a look so it was really nice to let them in and have a chat with them now."

With top competitors such as CeX and GAME, The Gamepad Congleton is bringing a personal touch to the industry providing more than just a retail experience in store.

Plans include an option to trade and sell used games, including an area for retro gaming consoles.

There will also be a free demo station set up at the back of the store for people to come in, play games and be a part of the gaming community.
