Firefighters had to damp down waste which caused a bin wagon to catch fire at a trading estate in Congleton to prevent it reigniting.

Shortly before 1pm this afternoon (Tuesday, 27th April), firefighters were called to a bin wagon on fire at a trading estate in Riverdane Road, Congleton.

The fire involving the waste in the back of the wagon was out on arrival, but the waste had to be removed and damped down and turned over by firefighters to ensure it did not reignite.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to monitor the temperature as they continued to damp down the waste."

The waste will be removed by a recovery waggon.

One fire engine from Congleton attended the incident.
