Congleton Rotarians Eddie Roberts and his partner Dee Pollitt received the Congleton Town Council Coronavirus Civic Award for their outstanding work.

They got the gong for volunteering at the Town Hall vaccination centre.

Eddie and Dee managed all the volunteers on site throughout all the sessions and turned up each and every day, helping thousands get their vaccines.

The citation reads 'For an outstanding contribution during the pandemic 2020 – 2021'.

Rotary-Congleton also picked up an award for stepping up and organising all the 90 volunteers – members of the Rotary club and townsfolk alike.

Congleton Cares had previously calculated that the value of the volunteering effort was over £52,000 to the community.

Vaccination data has stalled for Congleton, as the government tries to figure out how to include 12-15 year olds.

But the most recent figures for Congleton Town state 87.0% have had their first dose as of October 5 2021. 82.1% have had both coronavirus jabs as of the same date.
