Cheshire East is still working out new rotas for bin collections and will inform residents of changes before the roll-out of the weekly food waste recycling service in the autumn.

New legislation means every household in England will be provided with weekly food waste collections.

The new system – which will also see the council change black bin collections from fortnightly to three-weekly – should have been introduced at the end of March.

But Cheshire East is one of many local authorities across the country to have missed the deadline and says the changes will be introduced in the autumn.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service asked the council how the food waste recycling service would impact bin collections, following speculation on social media about how the changes would work.

A Cheshire East spokesperson said: "The introduction of weekly food waste collections is a huge undertaking and will include changes to the current routes and rotas for bin collections to incorporate the new additional weekly food waste recycling service.

"These changes are being worked through and the information that's on our website reflects the current waste and recycling collection information.

"Before food waste collections start in the autumn, residents will receive detailed information about how the service will work and what they need to do.

"This will include a leaflet delivered with their new outdoor food waste caddy, and updates to the online bin collection calendar, which can also be downloaded and printed off."

I Remember back in the 1960s when you had a food recycling bucket,
This was collected FREE OF CHARGE and used to feed the pigs on the local council pig farms.
I suppose this new collection will come at a cost the same as you garden waste in time or straight away knowing Cheshire east.
With the cost of living at its highest for years I can't see much being wasted.
Another waste of Council tax payers money if you ask me.
