A venue in Congleton is crowdfunding for a community defibrillator.

The Canal Street bar and events hub could have a pice of life-saving equipment inside, should a fundraiser meet the goal.

The potential installation of the kit, which can save lives in the event of cardiac failure, is in memory of a former customer of The Vale Club.

Congleton resident Matthew Swindells came up with the idea, to honour friend Matthew Park, who recently passed away.

Matthew Park.

"We want to have as many defibrillators around Congleton as possible," said Matthew Swindells.

"Thank you to anyone who has or is considering a donation."

The JustGiving page wants Congleton to raise £2,200 for the new defibrillator.

Currently, £780 has been raised so far, thanks to the generosity of 17 Congleton businesses or individuals.

"Resilient Medical kindly donated a defibrillator and a lock box for the Vale Club.

"We have previously raised £850 for other defibs across Congleton, thanks to the Pool Look Away Black Competition."

"We have also previously raised £450 for the Astbury Mere appeal, as their defibrillator had been used several times and needed replacing.

"So we donated some of our money and we will keep going to have more in place around the town."

You can donate to the crowdfunder here, which is currently at 35% of the target.

According to the National Institute for Health Care and Research, the UK survival rate for cardiac arrest is around 8%, but bystander assistance through cardiopulmonary resuscitation and attaching a defibrillator increased it to 32%.

Survival rates were even higher for people who had a rhythm that could be treated by a shock from the defibrillator, at 53%.

Currently, there are 19 defibrillators with 24 hour access in Congleton, but none near the long stretch of road that The Vale Club resides on.

There are a further 33 defibrillators which are only open during business hours, please click here for the full list around Congleton.

It is not yet known if the potential defibrillator will be inside or outside The Vale Club, however, Tracey of the Vale Club has given her blessing to the project.

Known for being opposite high pavements, events, and their £50 function room, The Vale Club is situated on Canal Street, CW12 3AE.

They are open from Tuesday to Sunday. Follow them on Facebook here.
