Congleton pub empty for almost five years to become homes
Councillors approved a pub shut since 2018 to become homes last Wednesday.
The Robin Hood, on Buxton Road, has been an eyesore for drivers since their last beer was served.
And now another pint will never be poured again, as it is destroyed along with its car park to become housing.
The homes will be two-story three-bed and four-bed properties alongside a one three-bedroom bungalow.
The former Marstons pub near Buglawton dates back to midway into the 19th century. But it was not Listed.
The approval document confirms the site also used to be a medieval baron court.
Some who approved the plan recommended the building should be maintained, however, this appears to not be the case.
Case Officer Phillipa Raida, who hinted that councillors to green light the project, had this to say:
"Regrettably, the building is now beyond repair and in a very poor structural condition. The property would require substantial reconstruction works to be saved. It has also had significant alterations which have compromised its architectural integrity although still of local historic interest."
No target completion date or house prices have been revealed by Barlow and Dawson Developments.
