A firefighter from Congleton has appeared in court following a fatal crash.

Kevin Simpkins appeared at Crewe Magistrates Court on Friday, January 23, charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

It comes after police were called to the scene of a crash at the junction of Crewe Road and Close Lane in Alsager on the morning of Friday, March 28, 2025.

Upon arrival, officers found a Lexus had been involved in a collision with a fire engine, driven by 57-year-old Simpkins.

The driver of the car, a 59-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Simpkins is next due to appear at Chester Crown Court on Thursday, Friday 20, for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
