A family has cleared a large volume of rubbish around the perimeter of a Congleton playing field four times in just 10 days.

From 27th April to 5th May, the Congleton family cleared the car park, the area off the field and down through the woodland, where there was a lot of broken glass scattered the length of the path at Back Lane playing fields.

A Congleton resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told Nub News: "It's disappointing as when we started, I felt like perhaps it has been rubbish left there over a period of time. But it's not, it must be daily and the same people leaving the same rubbish.

"I was inspired to do this by a Facebook litter pick group that a friend asked me to join. It really motivates you when you see other people doing it.

"We've had lots of lovely people thank us for doing it, knowing it's making a difference to others makes it all worthwhile for me."

The resident told Nub News that going out litter picking was a way of educating their children to "look after their planet".

The resident continued: "I like to think that other people will follow suit or certainly be more mindful of the problem.

"My friend bought her son a litter picker too after seeing my Facebook posts so hopefully more people in the area will do the same.

"The kids really enjoy doing it and they know it's helping our planet and wildlife."

On every occasion the family has litter picked, they've filled at least one carrier bag, sometimes even two bags worth of rubbish despite there being four bins at the car park at Back Lane.

Some of the rubbish cleared over the 10-day period included three boxes of gas canisters, sandwich packets, drinks bottles dog poo bags and disposable gloves.

The resident concluded: "With the number of bins so close by, there is absolutely no excuse for this consistent volume of rubbish."
