You can dance for charity, to help a local hospital, this summer.

A DJ and ex-Macclesfield Hospital patient from Congleton have teamed up to offer an 'old-school' disco night this August.

Funds will be raised to afford a new breast screening unit at Macclesfield Hospital.

Local DJ Chris Marshall Booth, has teamed up with former Macclesfield Hospital patient and Congleton resident Gena Moors to deliver the event.

The August event will take place in Congleton town centre.

"The event will take place at Congleton Town Hall on August 17, from 7:30pm to 12:30am," said Gena.

"Unfortunately back in April 2020, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to go through a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Most of my treatment was at Macclesfield hospital. It's my way of saying thank you for the amazing care that I received."

So last year we all raised just over £24,000. I am hoping raise that again this year as the lifesaving piece of equipment that I want to buy is approx. £50,000."

"I am eternally grateful to each and every person who has been involved in any of the events. I feel proud to say that every person who has been involved, in whatever way, your name will be on that piece of lifesaving equipment in your hospital."

Gena will also be hosting the Splash of Pink ball at Shrigley Hall once again, in Pott Shrigley, this September.

When pressed about why she keeps going with this inspirational fundraising, Gena had this to say: "It is just something in me. Like I have to do it, I have to reach my goal and deliver exactly what I set out to achieve.

"My passion for this really does take over."

"I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Chris for hosting this disco and for nominating my fund to receive a donation. It will get me closer to that £50,000 and for that I am eternally grateful."

Lily Preston, Fundraising and Events Manager at East Cheshire NHS Charity said on behalf of the Hospital: "Thank you so much to Chris for hosting this brilliant event for the Splash of Pink breast cancer fund at Macclesfield Hospital."

"We're so grateful to both Gena and Chris for their support and can't wait to hear how it goes!"

Charitable disc jockey Chris added: "I have worked and still do as a mobile and club DJ for all my life really since about 15 years old, and still do, I love it and get a buzz out of seeing people enjoy themselves and the music."

"Gena got in touch early 2023 and asked me if I was free to help out and DJ at her 'Splash of Pink' event in Pott Shrigley last September, and a brief conversation with her, and with the amount of passion she had to make it a great event how could I resist?

"We went and looked at the venue and had a great conversation about things and I realised what a lovely soul she is and I was more than happy to help.

"So we are off again in September this year to Shrigley Hall Hotel for 'Splash of Pink 2' the remix.

"In the meantime I love a bit of 70's, 80's and 90's and lots of people have asked me to put a night on with that theme, so I have and immediately Gena and Splash of Pink came to mind as the beneficiary.

"So we are after a full house for a fun night of great music, a bit of handbag dancing and dance like no one's watching, meet some friends old and new and just have a great night night out and do some good with the proceeds, which needs no explanation.

"Music is medicine - rock on!"

Gena is over halfway towards her fundraising goal.

Prizes donated so far include meals, football memorabilia and vouchers.
