Congleton community invited to come together for special ceremony to honour Armed Forces
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 12th Jun 2026
Congleton residents will come together to recognise the dedication and sacrifice of those who have served for our country.
The town council and the local branch of the Royal British Legion have announced plans to mark Armed Forces Week.
A special flag-raising ceremony will take place to mark the start of the week, which serves as an opportunity for people across the country to show their support and appreciation for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, including currently serving personnel, service families, veterans and cadets.
Congleton Town Mayor, councillor Suzy Firkin, said: "Armed Forces Week is a chance for our community to come together and recognise the commitment and sacrifices made by our serving personnel, veterans, cadets and military families.
"We are proud to support this national event and invite residents to join us at the Cenotaph as we raise the flag and show our appreciation for all those who serve our country."
The flag-raising ceremony will take place at 9am on Monday, June 22, at the Cenotaph on Lawton Street.
The short ceremony will be attended by veterans from the Congleton Branch of the Royal British Legion.
Councillor Firkin will say a few words to commemorate the occasion and officially mark the beginning of Armed Forces Week.
The week culminates with Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 27.
