A Congleton venue will host a fundraising concert for Ukraine this December.

The multi-genre musical showcase of local and Ukrainian talents will take place just in time for Christmas, on Saturday December 17 2022.

There are seven different musicians performing, with over half being Ukrainian.

Congleton Area Ukraine Support Network's Vic Brown had this to say about the event.

"A little over 7 months ago, a small group of individuals, determined to help our friends from Ukraine, came together to support those who now live in and around Congleton," said Vic.

"Much of our work to date has been ensuring that our visitors our succesfully housed with hosts, and providing practical support with such things are finding hosts, furnishing accommodation, and providing english language support ( see release)

"Recently Clonter, well known for its wide range of artistic and creative music events, offered to stage a fundraising event. We cannot thank them enough for their support.

"Tickets cost £20, and will go towards the work we do helping Ukrainians and their host families. You can buy them online."

Those performing include internationally acclaimed Ukrainian artists including pianist Ivan Hovorun and opera singer Khrystyna Makar.

Ivan is forging a reputation as one of the most acutely perceptive and insightfully intelligent musicians of our time.

He first performed for the public of his native city Lviv at the age of nine.

He was only eleven when he first performed with a full orchestra, since when he has been invited to perform annually with the Lviv Symphony Orchestra and also performed with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine.

He has performed concerts at St. Michael's Church in Macclesfield for over five years. But December will mark his maiden Congleton performance.

Earlier in the year, Ivan performed two Ukrainian humanitarian concerts in Macclesfield, raising £6000 for national and Macclesfield-based Ukrainian charities. These concerts were covered by Congleton Nub News' sister site Macclesfield Nub News.

He has also helped launch a bursary fund for Ukrainian musicians who had their studies interrupted by the invasion, but have been offered a place at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

It is also worth mentioning that a quartet or RNCM musicians will be performing at the event.

Ukrainian Khrystyna Makar is doing her first concert in Congleton.

Khrystyna completed her studies with Alexander Vostryakov of the Kyiv National Opera and Olga Pasichnyk of the Polish Royal Opera.

She has since embarked on a career which has taken her to many of the most prestigious Concert Halls and Festivals of Europe, including: Vienna, Antwerp, Dresden, Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Munich, Stavanger, Stockholm and Geneva.

It is thought to be her first concert in Cheshire East.

Singer-songwriter Esther Brennan, accompanied by Ian Buchanan on dobro and mandolin, have previously done other charity concerts at Clonter.

There will also be performances from Leek Peace Choir, and Clonter regular Brennan & Buchanan.

Funds raised on the night will also go to the Rotary International Crisis Task Force project.

This remarkable project aims to provide 300 temporary homes in Moshchun where many houses were destroyed during the Russian invasion of Kiev.

Doors open at 6pm for the concert, which takes place just eight days before Christmas.
