Congleton's Eco icon Cong Bear teamed up with Twitchy the Cat from The Cat Radio to take part in the UK Million Mile Clean up at Brookfield Park in Nantwich.

Cong Bear's creators Sharon and Stuart Neild who are also presenters on Canalside Radio were "honoured" that Cong Bear had been asked to take part in the clean up.

They felt it showed that people all over Cheshire had heard about the character that they created "to bring attention to our little town of Congleton and environmental issues that affect us all".

Local dignitaries were happy to play as supporting players to the duo (Cong Bear and Twitchy the Cat), including Cheshire East Council leader Sam Corcoran, MP Kieran Mullan, Cllr Quentin Abel (Environment Champion for Cheshire East Council) and the new Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer.

The event took place on Sunday (16th May) and was organised by Jeremy Herbert of Sustainable Nantwich.

Volunteers were out in force litter picking to make Brookfield Park clean and tidy, Nantwich Lions were there to take part, litter pickup grabbers and recyclable bags were provided.

Ice cream vouchers were generously given by Edwardos in Nantwich to the litter pickers who took part.

Jeremy Herbert gave a wonderful speech on the day and declared Brookfield Park a "Beach".
