A special civic ceremony will take place in Congleton town centre on Sunday 2 June.

The festivities will start with a parade, setting off from Antrobus Street Car Park at 2pm.

Leading the procession will be Congleton's very own Bear Town Stompers, followed by a range of groups and organisations which have a connection to this lovely town.

A town council spokesperson said onlookers can look forward to a "lively festive feel".

The procession will wend its way through Congleton's streets, and ultimately onto the Town Hall at 2.30pm. Here, there will be a ceremony celebrating the election of the new mayor, Cllr Kay Wesley.

The ceremony is expected to last around 90 minutes, to be followed by light refreshments. The procession and the ceremony as a whole aim to be a fantastic opportunity to welcome the new mayor.

The council spokesperson added: "We would like the event to be more inclusive and a celebration of everyone in Congleton who supports the community and the town. We hope you will join us for what we hope will be a wonderful day and a tribute to everyone who makes Congleton such a great town!"
