Christmas tree farm near Congleton freezes prices during cost of living crisis

A Christmas tree farm just a stone's throw from Congleton have kept their prices the same, despite the rising cost of living.

Libby's Patch in Gawsworth have brought back their Christmas tree event for the second year in a row.

Families are invited to come and pick their tree, while enjoying hot and mulled drinks amid gorgeous countryside.

Libby's Patch is just four miles - or nine minutes - from Congleton. Farm owner Daniel Thornicroft (36) explained how it works.

"What is different this year is that we are open every day", he said.

"No booking is required. Just turn up from 10am-4pm.

"Because of the cost of living crisis and everything that is going on, we have managed to keep the prices the same.

"My prices have gone up, but I've decided to keep them the same for the customer to help out.

"What also new this year is what we have a bigger selection of trees.

"We had a lot of demand for larger trees. Last year we sold up to seven foot, this year we are selling trees as high as nine or ten foot.

"We have a great selection of potted trees as well, and we are also selling a selection of handmade wreaths made with local foliage.

"We've got some wooden reindeers and other decorations to purchase made by some locals as well.

"We've also introduced locally-grown mistletoe you can buy as well.

"Thank you to everyone for their support."

The farm delivers to Congleton and Macclesfield.

Libby's Patch hosts three seasonal events where people can come to the working farm for a day out.

There's a sunflower maze in the summer, Christmas trees in the winter, and pumpkin picking in the autumn.

And introduced for this Christmas event, any leftover pumpkins from their pumpkin picking event in October, has now been turned into chutney you can buy at the event.

The jar which would make a great addition to your festive cheese board.

Macclesfield business Fruits of the Forage have prevented Daniel's pumpkins from going to waste by turning it into the preserve.

They sold pumpkins at their farm in October, and have turned any leftover pumpkins into a chutney in partnership with a Macclesfield fruit company. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Congleton Nub News)

The farm are also doing their bit of the planet and community by encouraging customers to 'treecycle' their firs with East Cheshire Hospice.
