Cheshire MPs have been working to improve the county's transport network.

Tim Roca, Sarah Russell and Andrew Cooper, MPs for Macclesfield, Congleton and Mid Cheshire respectively, recently met with the Secretary of State for Transport, Heidi Alexander.

They discussed everything from potholes and bus routes to accessibility, rail fares and roadwork backlogs.

Mr Roca said: "We had a productive discussion on rail costs, including this government's first fare freeze in years, helping to ease the burden on those who rely on rail travel.

"We also talked about the increased funding for pothole and road repairs.

"While this investment is welcome, I stressed that funding must continue to rise to address the significant backlog of work facing our local councils after years of austerity under the previous government.

"Bus services were another key topic, particularly improving routes and reliability, including for rural communities. I was pleased to feed back the concerns and experiences constituents have shared with me.

"Ensuring our transport network works for everyone remains a priority for me."

Mrs Russell added: "Many constituents tell me the same thing: the current fares system is confusing, fragmented, and more expensive than it needs to be.

"With multiple train operator websites and a maze of ticket types, passengers can struggle to know they are getting the best deal.

"That is why I welcome the Department for Transport's plans for tickets to be brought together under Great British Railways.

"Rail matters to our economy, our environment, and our quality of life. I will continue to press ministers to ensure that areas like ours are not an afterthought, but a priority in the future of Britain's railways."
