By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 19th May 2026
Congleton will welcome in a new Town Mayor later this week.
Residents are being invited to attend the 2026-27 Mayor Making Ceremony at the Town Hall on Thursday, May 21.
Starting at 7pm, the evening will see the current mayor, councillor Robert Brittain, hand over the chain of office to his successor following a successful and memorable year representing the town.
A spokesperson for the council said: "The Mayor Making Ceremony is one of the highlights of Congleton's civic calendar and offers residents a chance to witness local democracy and tradition in action.
"Congleton Town Council would like to warmly welcome everyone who lives and works in the community to attend.
"Booking is not required — simply turn up on the evening and enjoy the proceedings."
Town councillors will elect one of their fellow councillors to assume the prestigious role during the annual ceremony.
During the formal proceedings, the newly elected town mayor will make their official pledge of office and introduce their mayoral party.
A new Deputy Town Mayor will also be appointed for the civic year ahead.
