A number of chip shops in Congleton have announced that they will be reopening their doors whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines.

The businesses have taken the decision to start trading once again after being closed since Prime Minister Boris Johnson implemented the country's lockdown, which has been in place since last month.

Hightown Fish & Chips, on Biddulph Road, reopened from 4pm today (Wednesday).

They are open until 8pm tonight and from Thursday to Saturday (12pm to 2pm) and 4pm to 8pm this week.

They announced on social media: "We have taken measures and adopted a new way of working in order to ensure social distancing, protecting both our customers and staff whilst maintaining our high standards of food freshness and quality."

Their measures include: three customers maximum inside, queue marshal outside, protective screens, marked standing areas, card payment preferred.

The team added: "This process may evolve as we all get used to this new way of living, but initially we have decided that in order to ensure a quick and fair process for all our customers we will not be taking phone orders during tea time shifts (4-8pm)."

Residents can phone or ask the queue marshal on arrival if they need food cooking (e.g Breadcrumb Fish or Burgers) which ensures limited waiting and hot/quality meals.

Phone orders will be accepted at lunch time shifts (12-2pm) due to people having limited time on work breaks.

The team concluded: "Thank you to everybody for all the messages of support during our closure. We hope to see you soon."

Their opening times will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings from 4.30pm to 8pm.

They will be offering contactless payment and orders must be place in advance by calling 07544087067.

A collection time will be given. Orders will be bagged and ready to collect at the agreed time.

The team posted on social media: "We miss all our great customers and we miss keeping busy serving our great traditional food!!"

There opening hours are Monday to Wednesday (12pm to 8pm) and Thursday to Saturday (12pm to 9pm).

The team posted on social media: "Please be patient with us during this unpredictable time. We are looking forward to seeing you all soon."
