Plans have been submitted to "transform" a Congleton town centre shop in a "sympathetic" and "contemporary manner".
The proposal for 69, Antrobus Street, Congleton, aims to return the shop to its former glory by taking inspiration from the late 19th century occupants, FW Pass & Sons by 'transforming' the frontage of the retail unit.
Applicant Beatrice Fasciato, of Fasciao Architects, Altrincham, wants to "enhance" the building's character whilst also improving the existing uses so the building could make a "positive contribution" to the street and community.
The site is situated in the West Street Conservation Area.
In a heritage, design and access statement, submitted alongside the application, a report stated: "Emphasis is placed on the rhythm of the glazing panels and entrance which is directly off Antrobus Street.
"The new proposals re-establishes this rhythm and connection, providing greater clarity and separation between the retail and residential entrances."
The plans also proposed "much-needed" internal and external improvements to the building, a four-storey property with retail at the ground and residential at the first and second floors.
It is the end property to a row of terrace houses and is near the Grade II listed United Reformed Church.
The plans state that new items such as windows and doors would be appropriate and to modern standards.
In addition to the "significantly improved" building fabric, the refurbished ground and basement levels would provide employment opportunities, whilst the first and second floors provide "desirable" residential accommodation.
The last date for submitting comments on the application which can be viewed here is 4th March, and the council's decision target date is 25th March.
