GRAHAM have issued the latest roadworks updates as the Congleton Link Road project continues.

From Wednesday (10 June), temporary traffic lights will be in place for 24 hours a day at Sandbach Road, Astbury, to allow works to tie in the new Sandbach Road junction to the existing carriageway. The planned completion date for this work is 25 August.

Also, from Wednesday, temporary traffic lights will be in place on Manchester Road, Congleton, to facilitate plant crossing the carriageway. The planned completion date for this work is 26 June.

Starting on 15 June (Monday), temporary traffic lights will be in place 24 hours a day at Macclesfield Road, Eaton, to allow works to tie in the new Macclesfield Road junction to the existing carriageway. The planned completion date for this work is 2 October.

Also, starting a week today (15 June), temporary traffic lights will be in place at Holmes Chapel Road, Somerford, to enable Scottish Power to carry out cable division works. The planned completion date for this work is 26 June.

To enable the construction of the Chelford Road structure and divert existing services, traffic will be diverted onto a two-way carriageway between Black Firs Lane and Back Lane, Somerford, starting 9 July.

The speed limit has been reduced from national speed limit to 10mph through the works area. The reduction is necessary due to the alignment of the temporary carriageway and construction traffic requiring access and egress from the works site. This will be in place for the duration of the Chelford Road overbridge construction.

The closure of Sandy Lane between A54 Holmes Chapel Road and A534 Sandbach Road, Somerford, will enable the construction of the mainline carriageway and the new Sandbach Road and Holmes Chapel Road junctions. Sandy Lane will re-open to pedestrians and cyclists when the above works are completed but will remain closed to vehicles. The planned completion date for this work is late 2020.

The closure of Back Lane (West), Somerford, will permit the construction of Back Lane (West), including two new roundabouts. There is no access to through traffic along this section of Back Lane, with access to the playing fields being maintained via Holmes Chapel Road. Access to properties on Back Lane is being maintained via Chelford Road. The planned completion date for this work is late 2020.

Giantswood Lane is now planned to open to traffic on Friday 24th July 2020.

GRAHAM has been working in partnership with Cheshire East Council to provide a new 5.5km bypass for Congleton.

The route for the link road will run to the north of the town, south of Eaton. It will link the A534 Sandbach Road, near its junction with Sandy Lane, to the A536 Macclesfield Road, near its junction with Moss Lane and provide a new crossing at the river Dane.

It will also create improved road connections to both Congleton Business Park and Radnor Park Trading Estate.

The £90m link road, which will take an estimated 8,500 vehicles-a-day away from the town centre, is due to be completed later on this year.
