Firefighters put out unattended camp fire

By Tom Avery 31st May 2020

Firefighters were called to an unattended camp fire in Congleton last night (Saturday).

One fire engine from Congleton attended Banky Fields shortly before 9.30pm.

A Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The unattended fire was approximately three metres squared.

"Crews used beaters to put out the fire, then used shovels to turn soil over to cover the area to prevent the fire re-igniting."

The incident comes just two days after firefighters warned residents to be aware of the devastating consequences of fires in open spaces following an increase in incidents across Cheshire.
