East Cheshire NHS Trust staff are playing a vital role in a major trial to see if bio-detection dogs can sniff out coronavirus in humans.

The trial, led by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in collaboration with the charity Medical Detection Dogs and Durham University, will determine whether dogs could be used as a new rapid, non-invasive diagnostic tool for the virus. The first phase is funded by the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).

Five Congleton town centre businesses have enquired about using the safe and more pleasant Community Garden area as an outdoor space for their customers to enjoy their food and drinks.

Congleton Town Council has been approached by Frank Hildrup from Congleton Kitchen and Bazaar on Bank Street requesting permission for himself and other local businesses to put tables and chairs in the Community Garden on Lawton Street for their customers to use during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The potential loss of a 26-space free car park in Congleton would be a "disaster" and the town council has called on Cheshire East Council to come up with a "better solution".

Councillors have called on Cheshire East Council to create temporary cycle routes throughout the town which would allow pupils from Congleton's two high schools to cycle safely.

Cheshire East received £619,000 in active travel funding from the Government to put in temporary cycle lanes and infrastructure aimed at encouraging the uptake of walking and cycling particular, by making it safer.

Congleton Town Council has pledged their support to Newbold Astbury cum Moreton Parish Council in their endeavours to improve road safety at an accident blackspot to ensure any further tragic losses of life can be prevented.

Georgia Ogden sadly passed away after the car she was travelling in crashed into an HGV on the A34 in Astbury in the early hours of 25th June.

Equilibrium Financial Planning has made the £500 donation to the club as part of its ongoing community support scheme initiative, which sees it give grants to charities and community groups across Cheshire East, Chester & District and Greater Manchester.
