A permanent Christmas tree to mark the celebration of life that will be illuminated annually and planted near the cenotaph has received financial support from Congleton Town Council.

At last Thursday's Congleton Town Council meeting of Finance and Policy Committee, councillors discussed a £500 grant application from Congleton Rotary, which would go towards the cost of the 'Tree of Light'.

It looks unlikely that Cheshire East will be deploying any covid-secure marshals to help residents social distance in the borough's town centres for the time being.

When asked if the authority planned to bring in any marshals, a CEC spokesperson told the LDRS: "The prime minister announced last week that Covid-secure marshals will be introduced in towns and city centres in England to help ensure social distancing rules are followed.
