Congleton Tennis Club hosted their annual closed club doubles championships on Sunday August 29.

The Ladies and Men's events took place alongside each other and there was some excellent tennis for the spectators to watch.

In the Ladies event kindly sponsored for the third year running by CW12 company Living Concepts, the final saw Beth Hitchen and Helen Dyson edge Larysa Walls and Vicky Garner 7-5.

Beth Hitchen added the doubles title to her recent singles success.

In the Men's event sponsored by Visions of Earth Matt Parker and Mike Massey who had edged Michael Spratt and Danny Wilkins on a tiebreak in the semi final, defeated another member of the Wilkins family in the final as they won out against Nick Wilkins and Drew Medley

Chair Rob Mcninch presented the trophies and prizes. He also thanked the Congleton businesses which sponsored the Bank Holiday weekend event.

Craig Robinson reminded members that the club Mixed Doubles Championship will take place on September 19 and that very few places remained in that competition so early entry is recommended.

They are currently looking for Congleton businesses to sponsor or provide prizes for the Mixed Doubles competition.

Get in touch with them via Facebook if you'd like your business to help out at the contest.

The club, located on 26 West St, is one of the oldest tennis clubs in the country.

They celebrated their 130th anniversary last year.

You can learn more about the club here, and call about future competitive tennis events on 07825 417550.

The club, which is a limited company, is open from 9am-10pm daily.

Please note, on Sunday's the Congleton tennis court centre only stays open until 8pm.
