Despite conceding a late equaliser, Congleton Town maintained their unbeaten start to the new campaign with a 2-2 draw against Runcorn Town.

The Bears returned to action for the first time in ten days after matches against Longridge Town (waterlogged pitch) and Ashton Athletic (coronavirus) were postponed.

However, for Runcorn Town, last night's (Tuesday) trip to the Cheshire Silk 106.9 Stadium was their first league game of the season.

The Bears took the lead after 18 minutes thanks to an Aarron John's header from a Lee Williamson cross from the left.

The visitors equalised on the half hour mark after a great run down the left from Kevin Exell, his pull back was finished by Dale Jennings, a former Bayern Munich player.

Arron Johns had a couple of chances before half-time to restore the Bears' led, but he was thwarted by Runcorn's keeper Adam Reid.

Thomas Schofield put Ryan Austin's side back in front from the penalty spot in the 67th minute after Jonathan Swale was brought down.

But the hosts could not hold onto their lead and maintain their 100% start to the season as Francois Antoine's shot took a deflection and squirmed into the bottom corner in the 88th minute.

The Bears' away fixture against Burscough on Saturday has been switched to a home game.

Attendance: 164
