Cllr Suzie Akers Smith, cycling and walking champion for Cheshire East Council

After being overlooked in the first tranche of Cheshire East active travel schemes, Congleton's request for 20mph speed limits on some roads, could be granted in the next round of government funding.

Congleton ward councillor Suzie Akers Smith, who is Cheshire East Council's cycling and walking champion, attended Tuesday's Alsager Town Council meeting, to discuss concerns surrounding Alsager's active travel scheme on Lodge Road.

Parents collecting their children from school should switch their engines off to help improve air quality, say Cheshire East Council.

Cllr Mick Warren, CEC cabinet member for communities, said: "Everyone has a role to play in having a positive impact on air quality in Cheshire East, and we want to inspire our staff, partners and local residents to take simple actions to help reduce air pollution and limit its impact on their health and that of others.

A local pension fund has become one of the first in the country to report on the carbon footprint of its £6 billion investment portfolio.

Cheshire Pension Fund has published its Climate Risk Report, which reveals that the carbon footprint of its equity investments is 30 per cent below the general market, represented by the FTSE All World Index which covers more than 3,000 companies in 47 countries.
