People in Congleton who for a variety of reasons may be struggling to cook a good hearty meal for themselves may be able to receive a meal once a week to their door, thanks to an extended offer from Congleton's Big Heart Lunch Club.

The subsidised club was set up in Spring 2020 to provide a meal for those who would normally attend the Congleton luncheon clubs run out of the United Reformed Church and St John's Community Centre in Buglawton.

Residents have been urged to take part in a consultation which could see parking charges rise in Congleton.

Since the council was created in 2009, car parking policies across the borough have differed from town to town. Car parking in some towns, unlike Congleton currently, is free to use, and in towns where charges do apply, the charges vary between towns.

Cheshire Wildlife Trust and Congleton Partnership have secured a grant of £63,000 to help plant 30,000 trees around the town and surrounding parishes.

After a successful planting season in early 2020, which saw over 1,300 trees planted in and around the town, the project has proven a hit with local residents and the Northern Forest Partnership Innovation Fund.

Congleton Town Council will be putting an extra focus on its White Ribbon campaign from now until the 12th December and hope residents and organisations will make the pledge and join the important campaign to reduce violence and abuse towards women and girls.

Male violence towards women goes back a very long way and remains shockingly prevalent. Sadly, this year has seen a significant increase in violence, harassment and abuse towards women during the coronavirus pandemic.

Congleton's HWRC at weekends

The Cheshire East branch of the Women's Equality Party this week called for Congleton to retain a Household Waste and Recycling Centre, after Cheshire East Council threatened to remove the facility from the town.

Plans to move the centre to a new Congleton site once the lease on the current site runs out have been shelved by Cheshire East to make cost savings in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Police in Congleton are advising residents to increase the security of their sheds and valuables following a number of incidents in the area.

Officers are currently investigating four shed breaks in Oak View Marton and one in Newcastle Road, Congleton, which all occurred overnight on 23 November. In some cases nothing was taken and in others, power tools were taken.
