The A536 will be closed between Congleton and Macclesfield today.

It will be shut for two nights, commencing at 7pm this Wednesday 22nd September.

Works will take place between 19:00 and 05:00 for 2 nights, which will fully re-open for weekend travel.

The 7.4 mile road travels through Gawsworth and Eaton on the way between the two large Cheshire East towns.

Lining replacement works are taking place, particularly for road grip fibre on Marton Lane.

The affected area includes Eaton's The Plough Inn on Macclesfield Road, which may be hard to access if you fancy a country pub trip these next two evenings.

The two-day works will make the road safer for residents of both towns.

This also means that public transport will not be running through the area.

The Arriva North West Service 38 bus will still run, just not through the A536.

It will divert via the A34/A537 in both directions, which will expect to add to journey time, from increased traffic.

Delays are likely, even if you opt to travel on the A536 outside of the works hours.
