Video game studio founded by Congleton resident launch crowdfunder for next project

By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 24th Jun 2025

An upcoming video game will let you explore the 'Peak District' as a dog.

Independent game studio IMPRNT have launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to support their next project – Hounded.

Congleton resident Calvin Williams, the company's co-founder, was stunned by the support shown for the game, with their £22,000 goal achieved in just four days.

Calvin said: "We were blown away with the reception!

"We didn't really have any expectations for the Kickstarter success as it was the first time we had tried crowdfunding.

"We knew that we had a decent following across our social channels, but we weren't sure how that would translate to people wanting to spend money!"

Calvin, 32, grew up in Runcorn before moving to Congleton in 2018 with his partner Melissa to start a family.

In 2023, he launched IMPRNT with his friend Jack Walker, from Derby.

The pair have been working together in the games industry for over a decade, at studios such as Sony, TT Games and Sega.

Calvin said: "We had always dreamt of starting a company that we could use to tell stories and the stars aligned in 2023, so we made the jump!"

Hounded will see the player take control of a border collie called Duke as they search for their owner in Anglodia, a fictional reimagining of the British Isles.

"The specific region this game takes place in is heavily inspired by the Peak District," Calvin said.

"We chose it for its natural beauty, history, and because it's a place that Jack and I both love.

"We live on either side of it so it's always our meeting point!"

He added: "Hounded came from our love for dogs as well as a desire to tell a story from an unusual point of view.

"When we conceptualise ideas, we start by making the world and go from there.

"We tried various protagonists but ultimately found the best match, for both story and gameplay, to be Duke the border collie."

At the time of writing, just over £35,000 has been pledged towards IMPRNT's Kickstarter campaigner.

There are rewards for those who pledge money, ranging from having your name in the credits all the way to having your own pet made as a character in the game.

IMPRNT have not yet announced a release date for Hounded.

Calvin said: "Our next steps are to get our heads down and focus on development once the Kickstarter ends at 5pm on Wednesday, July 2!"
