UPDATE: Investigation into derelict building fire is underway

An investigation into the cause of a fire at a derelict building in Congleton is underway.

Nub News reported that shortly after 4.30pm yesterday (17th May) fire crews discovered a fire on the second floor of the property on West Street.

Eight fire engines attended, two from Congleton, one from Alsager, one from Crewe, one from Holmes Chapel, one from Sandbach, one from Bollington, one from Lymm and aerial appliance.

At 2pm today, a Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A final temperature check of the building has taken place with a thermal imaging camera.

"The crews have now left the scene. An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway."
