Trees for Congleton share plans for next two planting sites
Trees for Congleton are "delighted" to share information for their next two tree planting sites in the town for this year.
The green space off Hillfields Close and Eardley Crescent in the residential area of Lower Heath is managed by Congleton Town Council.
The grassed open space, once farmland, is enclosed by mature trees within the steeply sloping Town Wood to the south.
Commenting on the Hillfields Close green space proposal, the Trees for Congleton group, said: "In view of the current climate change emergency it is aimed to increase its value for capturing and storing carbon by planting native trees and shrubs to expand the adjoining ancient woodland.
"A community orchard hedgerow and areas of reduced moving to encourage wildflowers would increase value for wildlife and add interest to local residents."
The second proposed planting site is Salford Place green space, a "quiet residential square", which is also in the residential area of Lower Heath and managed by the town council.
The group added: "Although overhead BT lines limit the space available, reduced mowing under trees, with mown grass paths and central area, would allow wildflowers to grow which would also increase value for wildlife and add interest for local residents."
The group is asking residents to give their feedback on the proposals.
Residents can email their comments to the group via [email protected] putting Hillfields Close or Salford Place in the subject line.
Alternatively, residents can post their comments to the Town Hall, High Street, Congleton, CW12 1BN, or leave a comment on the Trees for Congleton Facebook page.
The last date for submitting comments is Friday 12th February 2021.
Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, a planting date cannot be given, but residents who would like to volunteer have been advised to provide contact details.
