A mobile household waste recycling centre service is launching across Cheshire East.

The new service will bring waste and recycling facilities closer to communities across the borough, particularly in rural areas, starting Saturday, September 5.

The mobile HWRC service will initially operate at locations in Poynton, Wilmslow, Middlewich, Congleton and Macclesfield, with a location in Audlem expected to be added once final arrangements have been completed.

Councillor David Jefferay, Cheshire East Council's cabinet member for environment, sustainability and waste management, said: "The launch of the mobile household waste recycling centre service will provide residents with an additional way to recycle and dispose of household waste closer to where they live.

"The service will make it easier for residents, particularly those in rural communities, to access household waste and recycling facilities while complementing our existing household waste recycling centre network."

The mobile HWRC service forms part of Cheshire East Council's future household waste recycling centre provision and was approved following a review of waste and recycling services across the borough.

Residents will be able to book appointments through the council's booking system, with full details of locations, dates, accepted materials and opening times available on the council's website.

The system also allows residents to walk in with their waste and recycling, providing they book first.

Independent councillor for the Congleton East ward, Rob Moreton, said: "Most of us in Congleton agree closing Congleton's household recycling centre was a disaster and caused our residents a great deal of distress.

"Since its closure I have, alongside other councillors, been fighting to at least get mobile centres operating in Congleton.

"I'm pleased to say Congleton has now been included in this scheme. Obviously, this doesn't replace our recycling centre we lost but its a step in the right direction for those unable to get to Macclesfield.

"I will obviously continue to challenge Cheshire East for a permanent centre as Congleton is now a massive town and continues to grow."
