A group of travellers who arrived in Congleton on Saturday morning have been served with a notice, which requires them to leave by 5pm today (Tuesday).

A Cheshire East Council spokesperson told Nub News: "A member of the Cheshire and Warrington Gypsy and Traveller Liaison team has visited the group camped on land near the Congleton Leisure Centre and a welfare check has been carried out.

"The group has been served with a notice requiring them to leave by 5pm on Tuesday 21 July. Failure to do so could result in further legal action."

Nub News reported yesterday that at 1.10pm on Saturday (18th July) police were called to reports of an unauthorised encampment on Worrall Street, Congleton.

Officers attended the site and spoke to those present, and they said they will continue to pay "passing attention".

Cheshire Police told Nub News that the owner of the land was also aware of the encampment.
