The principal contractor for the Congleton Link Road project has issued a traffic management update.

Temporary Traffic Lights

There will be temporary two-way traffic lights in place tomorrow (Wednesday, 7th April) on Sandbach Road, between 8am and 4pm to enable sign installation works.

There will also be temporary two-way traffic lights in place 24 hours a day on Holmes Chapel Road starting today (Tuesday, 6th April) until Friday to allow final works to the new Holmes Chapel Road junction.

There will be temporary traffic lights in place 24 hours a day on Giantswood Lane starting tomorrow until Friday to enable completion of landowner access tracks.

Road Closures

Graham will be imposing an overnight road closure on Holmes Chapel Road between 8pm and 6am tomorrow to enable surfacing works.

An overnight road closure will also be implemented on Manchester Road between 8pm and 6am on Thursday to enable surfacing works.

A further overnight road closure will be imposed on Macclesfield Road between 8pm and 6am on Friday to allow surfacing works.

A Graham spokesperson said: "We would like to thank residents and commuters for their ongoing patience while we deliver the infrastructure programme."

The long-awaited opening date of the £90m Congleton Link Road has been revealed – along with its historic new name.

The 5.5km route will open for the public to walk and cycle along on Friday 16 April and that weekend, before opening to vehicles on Monday 19 April.

The borough's largest infrastructure project to date will be named Wolstenholme Elmy Way – after Congleton's famous pioneering educationalist and campaigner for votes for women, Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy.

The opening to traffic will be marked by a small Covid-secure ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by local classic cars enthusiasts driving their vehicles along the route for the first time.
