A tractor driver suffered 'life-changing' injuries in a crash near Congleton.

A large emergency service presence was called to Swettenham Road on Monday, September 22, following reports of a crash involving a BMW and a tractor.

As of 2pm on Wednesday, September 24, the 60-year-old man who had been driving the tractor remains in hospital with injuries to his ribs, bladder and spine.

The BMW driver, a 77-year-old woman, sustained injuries to her chest and shoulder.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At around 2.18pm on Monday, September 22, officers in Congleton were notified to a road traffic collision on Swettenham Road.

"The collision occurred between a blue BMW and a tractor, with officers attending alongside emergency service colleagues from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service.

"The driver of the tractor, a 60-year-old man, sustained injuries to his ribs, bladder and spine. He was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital by ambulance for further treatment. His injuries are thought to be life-changing and remains in hospital at this time.

"The driver of the BMW, a 77-year-old woman, sustained injuries to her chest and shoulder. She was taken to hospital by a relative who was on scene for assessment.

"No arrests have been made in connection with this incident."

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service sent one engine, from the Congleton station, to the scene.

A spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision in Congleton.

"An environmental pack was used to soak up oil that was leaking from a tractor, and the leak was sealed using a specialist paste.

"Two casualties were attended to by paramedics on-scene and later transported to the hospital."
