A number of sheep have been killed by two dogs in the North Rode area near Congleton.

Sergeant Simpson, of Cheshire Police said: "The dogs had escaped from their owner and this was the result.

"Sadly the message isn't getting through!

"We as a team are working with the National Farmers Union to ensure we secure the strongest penalties for those that don't take their responsibilities seriously.

"Please ensure your dogs are secure and on a lead when around livestock."

The incident comes only a couple of days after Congleton Police emphasised the importance of dog owners being responsible and keeping their pets under control ahead of lambing season.
