The community group looking to combat loneliness in Congleton
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 26th Jun 2026
A Congleton community group has teamed up with a developer to treat its members to a day out.
Company Corner recently applied to Mission Green, a Castle Green Homes initiative linked to the Woodland Manor development, for funding for a coach trip to a garden centre.
The group was one of 18 projects in the Congleton area with an emphasis on the environment or residents' wellbeing to receive Mission Green funding.
Company Corner founder Liz Cardall said: "It makes a massive difference to people who live on their own to have someone to talk to.
"It also gives others a chance to find out what else they can attend locally.
"With Castle Green's funding around 60 people enjoyed a day out to a garden centre and the week before everyone was treated to bacon or sausage baps in case they couldn't go on the trip."
Liz set up the group in 2018 after seeing a social media post from a woman who said she was lonely.
Starting out with 12 regulars, the group grew in popularity after the pandemic.
Today, around 70 people regularly attend Community Corner's weekly coffee mornings at Congleton Cricket Club.

Castle Green Homes sales director Sian Pitt said: "Loneliness can have a huge impact on people's health and wellbeing.
"Being part of a community and attending groups like Company Corner can have a positive impact.
"Those who attend the regular coffee mornings know they'll be met by friendly faces nurturing a sense of connection and belonging.
"It's this community spirt that helps make Congleton a great place to live."
