The swimming pool at Congleton Leisure Centre has reopened today (Monday) after closing over five months ago at the beginning of the lockdown.

The pool reopening forms the part of a phased reopening by the operator Everybody Leisure. The leisure centre located on Worrall Street reopened on Tuesday (1st September).

A statement from the leisure charity said: "Everybody Leisure is also preparing to welcome back customers to indoor swimming pools and will be opening them on a phased approach following guidance from the government and governing bodies including Swim England."

Outdoor pools operated by Everybody Leisure have already been running in other locations across the borough.

The leisure centre will operate the pool to best comply with the government's 'Covid Safe' guidelines.

Everybody Leisure said: "All swimming customers will need to follow social distancing and one way systems, come dressed 'beach ready' and are encouraged to follow the national swimming guidance which includes showering at home and spending minimal time in the changing villages."

The operator also announced they will be extending gym sessions from 45 minutes slots to 90 minutes following positive feedback from customers on cleanliness and hygiene.

An increased number of fitness classes are also being added to the timetable to meet the demand from customers.
