The Congleton Swimathon is back, for the first time since 2019.

Lockdowns scuppered the superb swimming event from being held in recent years, but organisers Congleton Rotary club are delighted to announce the return for 2022.

"We're delighted to confirm the Swimathon returns next year.

"It's not too soon to start getting a team together, says Rotary!"

While it won't be held in Congleton for 2022, it will still be a very much Congleton community oriented affair!

"Thanks to a big welcome from Biddulph Leisure Centre, the event will return on March 4th, 5th and 6th," 2022, added Congleton Rotary.

"The popular Rotary Swimathon fell victim earlier this year to a double-whammy of the pandemic and the closure of Congleton's Leisure Centre."

As the Worrall Street sporting hub undergoes major construction works, the Thames Drive leisure centre in Biddulph will be hosting next year's events.

The 28th edition of the once-annual event hopes to raise money for Congleton charities.

On February 8 and 9 2019, Rotarians raised money for Dementia UK and Congleton Less-Abled Club.

The total exceeded £10,000.

Primary schools from all over Congleton took part, with contesting teams able to receive 50% of the money back that they raise for their own charity of choice.

Eric Westwood is organising Swimathon 2022 for the Congleton Rotary Club.

He said, "We will be contacting all the teams that have entered and supported the event over many years, to engage with them and with new teams to ensure that they travel the extra couple of miles to Biddulph!"

For more information about registering a team, visit the Rotary Gazebo in Congleton Town Centre on the last three Saturdays in October, including this Saturday.
