Smoke bombs are believed to have been the cause behind firefighters being called to a fire at a flat in Congleton.

Shortly before 3pm today (Monday), firefighters received a report of a fire at a flat in Moston Court, Congleton.

On arrival the crew discovered that the ground floor flat was smoke logged. Two fire engines attended, one from Congleton and one from Macclesfield.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus cleared the smoke with a large fan.

Firefighters also looked for hotspots at the flat using a thermal imaging camera.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "There were no signs of excess heat or fire at the address. The smoke is believed to have been caused by smoke bombs."

Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour.
